Your Memories of SINATRA and Italian Food

WHAT ARE YOUR MEMORIES of FRANK SINATRA

& ITALIAN FOOD

WE WANT to KNOW !!!

Frank Sinatra and Italian Food? They go together! What's more Italian Than FRANK & FOOD? ITALIAN FOOD That Is. Is there any other? Well Yes, bet we're talking about SINATRA and His Favorite Food without question was Italian, and more specifically ITALIAN-AMERICAN FOOD, and Home Cooked at that, or at one of Frank's Favorite spots like : GINO'S on Lexington Avenue or PATSY'S on 56th Street in New York. Or at Home in HOBOKEN, New Jersey that is.

And when it came to Italian Food and his Favorites, Frank knew what he wanted, and most would be suprised to know that Frank kept it simple. He loved Clams Posillipo that famous Clam dish from La Bella Napoli Italy. Spaghetti Pomodoro (TomatoSauce) was his all-time number one favorite dish of all. When Frank went to Patsy's, his favorite was Veal Milanese, the famed dish of Milan which is a Veal Rib Chop pounded thin, breaded and fried in Olive Oil and Butter and usually served with an Arugala Salad on top. Yes Veal Milanese is pounded thin, but Frank liked his pounded super thin and thinner than most. You may also be suprised to know that Frank wasn't too crazy about Garlic. He didn't mind a bit, but not too much, and this is actually the real Italian way, for Italians eat a whole lot less Gperceive.arlic than most Americans (Non Italians).

PATSY'S  "Franks Favorite Restaurant"

Frank's Favorite Restaurant in The World, was Patsy's on West 56th Street in New York, in The Theater District near Times Square .. Frank's Favorites were; Calms Posillipo, Spaghetti Pomodoro,  Veal Milanes (extra Thin & Crispy) and Spaghetti & Meatballs of which patsy's makes The Best in The City ..

PATSY'S is by far the restaurant most associated with SINATRA -- on its website, the restaurant notes that it "has been known for years as the restaurant Frank Sinatra made famous." You can still order up old-school Italian there, but you might not have the exact same experience as Sinatra, who was said to have entered through a special door to sit at a reserved table on the second floor. Sinatra became especially loyal to the restaurant after making a solo Thanksgiving reservation one year, not realizing the restaurant was slated to be closed that day. Patsy Scognamillo didn't want to turn Sinatra away, so he allowed the reservation. He also didn't want Sinatra to know the restaurant was opened just for him -- so he had the entire staff bring their families to fill the place up, something Sinatra didn't learn until years later, according to Patsy's lore. The restaurant still celebrates its connection to Sinatra: At right, in 2002, Joe Scognamillo served actor Bill Boggs, who had dressed up as Sinatra . (236 West 56th St.)

SINATRA FAVORITE ITALIAN RESTAURANT

PATSY'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT
West 56th STREET, NEW YORK, NY
SINCE 1933

Everyone knows patsy's was Frank's Favorite. Everyone in the know or who knew Frank. Patsy's on West 56th Street was a long time favorite of Sinatra, who started eating at Patsy's ever since his Star Began To Rise back in the 1940's .. The Dorsey Brothers, Tommy and Jimmy brought Frank there for his first of thousands. Frank was going to Patsy's ever since his New York Hoboken days, when he moved to Hasbrouk Heights New Jersey just a few blocks from famed Jersey Mob Boss Willie Moretti, who was Sinatra's real-life Don to the fictitious Don Vito Corleone and Johnnie Fontaine (Sinatra) in Mario Puzzo and Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather.

Frank's favorites at Patsy's were; Clams Posilipo, Veal Milanese (extra Crispy), and Meatballs (Veal Meatballs). Patsy's has become a sort of shrine to the great one, Francis Albert Sinatra and should be on the bucket list of anyone who calls themselves a major fan of the man, "Sinatra."

Food and Frank, or should I say Italian Food and Frank? You know that it’s just gotta be Italian? The food that is. Well it’s hard for me to write about Italian Food, and Italian-American Food to be more specific, and not talk about the great one Frank Sinatra and his presence at our many meals. We’re Italian-American and we love Frank Sinatra, the man and his music, it’s a requirement and absolute must of any true blooded Italian-American, if you are, then you’ve just gotta love Frank, he’s the undisputed most beloved Italian-American of All-Time and that’s all there is to it.    Now as most of you know, Frank Sinatra was and still is Italian-America’s most iconic personality of all, we revere him in an almost God-like fashion.

Yes Frank Sinatra was almost God-like to we Americans of Italian ancestry and that’s that. He was one of the 20th Century’s greatest entertainers to most American people whether they are Italian or not. And to we Italians he was # 1 and without question the single greatest entertainer and singer of them all. Yes we love the man and his music, which always was just flawless. The sounds of Sinatra would always be playing at our dinner parties and just about any time of the day, “no matter what we were doing, it just had to be Frank.” From the time I was just a young boy my mother Lucia played her Sinatra records all, I listened, and I loved. Mommy also loved the great Italian-American singers like; Dean Martin, Al Martino, Jerry Vale, and Tony Bennett. So as young children we grew up with the sounds of Sinatra as well as those of our contemporary artists like The Beatles, Pop Music, R&B, and Rock-N-Roll. We loved it all. Most kids just like the music of the day (Rock & Roll and whatnot), but we the Italian kids loved Sinatra as well, it was in our blood, our DNA, we always listened to Frank when our parents played his records on the Hi-Fidelity phonograph.

My Aunts Fran and Aunt Helen would be playing Sinatra albums on their big console record player of the 60s as we arrived at their homes for our weekly Sunday meals. These meals were an all day affair that included Antipasti, Pasta, Sunday Sauce Gravy, Italian Pastries, coffee, and the sounds of, “you guessed it,” Sinatra. This was a combination that in itself was iconic Italian-American and just could not be beat, those meals with our tasty Italian-American Food, friends and family and the beautiful soothing music of one Francis Albert Sinatra, as well as Dino, and Jerry Vale too.    Yes we had many meals with Frank playing in the background as we ate Meatballs, Braciole, Sausages, and Cannoli. Can you beat that? I don’t think so, it’s Frank, Family, and Food, the 3 F’s of Italian-America.

So when you cook and invite friends and family over for some pasta, Sunday Sauce, or whatever, be sure to put Frank on and your experience will be complete. Sinatra, friends, family, and pasta, what’s better?
